Which players both well known and hidden gems do you expect to stand out in terms of their performance at the up coming World Cup.

Ed what do you see as the likely ramifications if the European Commission rule today that the top clubs in Spain received state aid. What sort of sanctions can you see being imposed? Which teams are involved and what impact will it have on transfer activity?

Thanks in advance for you input.

{Ed002's Note - This has been dragging on for four years and it remains unclear whether or not anything illegal has happened, and even if it has, who is at fault - effectively the Spanish government for using taxpayer funds as "aid" for clubs - not disimmilar to the argument about West Ham and the Olympic Stadium in a way. The matter was discussed last week at a "conference" in Madrid and clubs from across Europe were shouting "foul" over a whole host of financial matters. Any decision will be subject to appeal. The clubs involved are Valencia, Elche and Hercules regarding loans that were made; Real Madrid regarding the sale, transfer and loan back of of some land; Barcelona, Real Madrid, Osasuna and Athletic Bilbao on the easement of taxation. The best of the bunch is unrelated to this matter right now but was the Villarreal "ghost airport" deal with where the local (not central) government paid €20M for the sponsorship of to promote Aeroport Castello back in 2011. Another saw Levante get paid by the local government to advertise the local tourist board.}

Thanks for the detailed response. It all sounds very opaque. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. As you say the West Ham Olympic stadium issue could be argued as state aid. Not really fair where West Ham are paying next to nothing and Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool and the rest have to pay to extend rebuild their grounds.

Good afternoon Ed,

We are starting to see rumours that Juve are interested in Matic. Is there any substance to the rumours, or is it pure conjecture?

Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - They have an interest.}
